HeroDevs Reaffirms Commitment: OSS Pledge for 2025 with over $160K in Support

We wouldn’t be here without open source, so supporting it is part of our DNA. Last year, we joined the Open Source Pledge to give back to the community powering so much of the software we depend on. This year, we’re proud to renew that commitment with even more scale and investment.

Growth & Impact: 2025 by the Numbers (so far)

• 50 full-time developers on staff
  
  
• $160,000 pledged toward open source sustainability
  
  
• That’s an average of $3,200 per dev reinvested into the ecosystem
  
  

With these resources, we’re backing the long tail of projects, maintainers, and infrastructure that too often goes underfunded.

This includes over $60,000 in foundation support and more than $100,000 through GitHub Sponsors, with standout investments in ecosystems like Vue and Bootstrap, each receiving more than $40,000.

Why It Matters More Than Ever

Open source isn’t a spark; it's the wind beneath every modern stack—from frontends to runtimes to infrastructure. But the sustainability gap is real:

• Many projects are under-maintained.
  
  
• Security updates and urgent patches often come from volunteers.
  
  
• Organizations running older or unmaintained stacks face serious risk.
  
  

To us, supporting OSS isn’t just a gesture—it’s an extension of our mission. We specialize in Never-Ending Support (NES) for end-of-life OSS and dependencies, but we can’t do it in isolation. Healthy open source enables resilient systems.

Where Our Pledge Goes

Our 2025 contributions will spread across core OSS projects and initiatives, with priorities like:

• Foundations (e.g. OpenJS, Linux Foundation)
  
  
• Critical runtimes & frameworks (Node.js, Express, etc.)
  
  
• Maintainers of smaller, high-impact libraries
  
  
• Grants and sponsorships for bug bounties, audits, and sustainability
  
  

Each dollar is allocated to partners and projects our engineering teams rely on daily—and those that deserve more eyes, care, and funding.

‍Earlier this year, HeroDevs also announced a $20M Open Source Sustainability Fund to support creators maintaining end-of-life OSS. This fund extends beyond our annual pledge to provide long-term stability for critical projects.
