HeroDevs and IBM Collaborate to Protect Enterprises from Open-Source Risks
New integration is designed to deliver security, compliance, and flexibility for enterprises running Spring and Struts frameworks.

Sandy, UT – HeroDevs, the leader in Never-Ending Support for end-of-life (EOL) open-source software, today announced a strategic collaboration with IBM to provide enterprise-grade security and support. This enables organizations running applications using outdated versions of Spring, Spring Boot, and Apache Struts to maintain stable operations without being forced into complicated and costly migrations.
The challenge is clear: many enterprises rely on application servers that are hosting application workloads built upon unsupported frameworks such as Spring Boot 2.7 and legacy Struts applications. Without official patches, these critical systems face increasing exposure to growing security vulnerabilities and compliance risks.
As part of this collaboration, enterprises running Java workloads on IBM and Red Hat runtimes, such as IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM WebSphere Liberty, Red Hat JBoss EAP and other Java runtimes, will now have the ability to continue running mission-critical applications securely while controlling the pace of modernization.
“I am so excited to join forces with IBM and what it means for all users of open-source software,” said Rob Nalen, COO of HeroDevs. “As a former Red Hatter, I have seen firsthand the power and value that open-source brings. As the adoption of open-source expands, the ability to stay up to date becomes increasingly more difficult; add in the constant pressures of developing new features, limited resources and ever-changing technology, means migrations are not worth the cost, time or risk to enterprises. IBM and HeroDevs are here to provide the ability for enterprises to adopt open-source technology confidently, with the peace of mind that they will have the ability to control their own roadmap as it relates to when and where they migrate, while simultaneously ensuring enterprise-level security and compliance.”
Delivered via IBM Library Support for Spring and IBM Library Support for Struts, IBM and HeroDevs will provide drop-in update replacements, ongoing security fixes, and enterprise support. This ensures compliance without forcing risky or rushed rewrites due to community-driven release cycles.
As Shane O’Rourke, IBM Program Director for Java and AI Innovation, explained, the collaboration is about flexibility.
“Enterprises shouldn’t have to choose between security and stability,” O’Rourke said. “By teaming up with HeroDevs, we’re giving our customers a trusted way to run their applications safely on IBM and Red Hat runtimes, even when those applications rely on older versions of open-source frameworks. This approach extends the life of critical systems, while empowering organizations to modernize at their own pace.”
The solution is available for purchase via IBM now, giving enterprises a new way to stay secure while maintaining control of their modernization timelines. IBM customers will learn more about this at IBM TechXchange in Orlando, FL from October 6 – 9.
