Salt Lake City, UT — HeroDevs today announced it has joined the Commonhaus Foundation as the founding member of the Open Source Sustainability Initiative (OSSI) and a Gold Sponsor. The Commonhaus Foundation and HeroDevs created the OSSI in order to support sustainable open source ecosystems through improved lifecycle transparency and collaboration between maintainers, foundations, ecosystem partners, and the broader open source community.
With the launch of the OSSI, HeroDevs is proud to announce partnerships with the Hibernate, Jackson, and Quarkus communities, enabling commercial support for enterprises that require CVE remediation, while migrating to supported open source versions. In addition, HeroDevs will participate as an active member within these communities, including providing assistance at the direction and request of community leadership and maintainers. Over time, HeroDevs will partner with more Commonhaus projects to offer ongoing support for versions no longer receiving community support.
“Open source software is foundational to modern enterprise infrastructure, but the demands on maintainers and open source communities continue to grow as AI accelerates software development, dependency sprawl, and vulnerability discovery,” said Rob Nalen, Chief Operating Officer at HeroDevs. “Through the partnership with Commonhaus and launch of the OSSI, we’re helping strengthen sustainable lifecycle stewardship, vulnerability coordination, and long-term project resilience across critical open source ecosystems.”
This initiative comes as maintainers and open source communities face growing pressure to sustain long-term project stewardship, vulnerability response, and ecosystem continuity amid limited long-term funding models and increasing operational demands.
“Foundations like Commonhaus play an important role in helping open source communities build sustainable, long-term ecosystems around widely adopted open source projects,” said Erin Schnabel, Co-Founder and Chair of the Commonhaus Foundation. “This collaboration creates more opportunities for maintainers, ecosystem partners, and enterprise users to collaborate responsibly, while preserving the independence and governance of open source projects.”

About Commonhaus
The Commonhaus Foundation is a non-profit launched in April 2024 to support the long-term sustainability of open source projects. Inspired by the legacy of Codehaus, it offers a neutral home built around three priorities: succession planning to handle leadership transitions gracefully, minimal governance that respects each project's existing practices, and fiscal sponsorship to simplify funding. Projects keep their established brand, community identity, infrastructure, and governance, and the foundation supports a broad array of OSI-approved licenses.
