HeroDevs Launches Express NES as Part of Ecosystem Sustainability Program
Introducing Express NES: Long-term support for legacy Express.js, providing security and compliance for mission-critical applications.
HeroDevs is excited to announce the release of Express Never-Ending Support (NES), a fully supported continuation of legacy versions of Express.js. This launch is part of HeroDevs' partnership with OpenJS’s Ecosystem Sustainability Program, which ensures that critical open-source software like Express.js remains secure and reliable, even after reaching end-of-life.
Express.js, a popular back-end framework for building RESTful APIs and web applications with Node.js, reached its end-of-life in July 2015. Despite its official support ending, many organizations still depend on applications built with Express, creating significant challenges in maintaining security and compatibility. Express NES directly addresses these issues by providing security patches, compatibility fixes, and expert long-term support, enabling developers to keep their applications secure and compliant. Express NES currently supports Express 3 and will extend to Express 4 at the future end-of-life day once it is announced.
“We’re grateful to see HeroDevs stepping in to provide extended long-term support for Express,” said the Express Technical Committee. “Express NES ensures that the many businesses and developers who rely on Express can continue using it safely and securely, even years after its original end-of-life. This kind of ongoing commitment to the open-source ecosystem is crucial, and we’re excited to see the benefits it brings to the developer community.”
HeroDevs' ongoing partnership with the OpenJS Foundation has been instrumental in this effort. Through the partnership, HeroDevs has been able to collaborate with maintainers and community members who expressed a clear demand for continued support of end-of-life software.
“We’re thrilled to introduce Express NES as part of our continued mission to support the sustainability of key open-source tools,” said Joe Eames, VP of Partnership at HeroDevs. “Our partnership with OpenJS has enabled us to meet the needs of developers still relying on older versions of critical frameworks. Express NES ensures that they can continue building and maintaining their applications without the risk of security vulnerabilities or loss of compliance.”
Express NES is a drop-in replacement for the original framework, making it easy for developers to continue using Express without requiring extensive rewrites or costly migrations. With HeroDevs' long-term support and expert backing, Express NES ensures that applications remain secure, compliant, and stable.
